Hey, I’m John.
I’ve always been someone who likes to explore different creative outlets - to learn new skills and apply the transferable ones to new disciplines. Since my teens my first instinct has always been to figure out how to make or do something myself, or to collaborate with friends, rather than ask someone else to do it for me - and that DIY ethos has grown in to something defined that I think is important.
While the approach can sometimes seem unfocused, it’s been rewarding in some really profound ways. I do and make things purely because I enjoy the process, and feel lucky to have seen some success with many of the things I’ve done.
My friends and I founded the band Maybeshewill in 2005, and while I’ve always struggled to pull my weight as a musician, it’s been a platform to learn and test so many other related skills.
I started The Robot Needs Home Collective at a similar time, and it became a vehicle to promote shows and release music by both our band and our friends. Since then it’s grown leaps and bounds, bringing respected International artists to perform in the UK and scoring multiple UK Top 40 albums for the artists we work with. The Collective has retained the steadfastly DIY ethos that underpinned it when it was formed - we return as much as possible to our artists and aim to support them in whatever way they need.
Outside of that, I’ve been a Tour Manager for some of the nicest artists in the world, I run International Tour Operations at Armada Merch and lecture in Event Management at NTU’s London campus.
